The secret to mixing and matching pillows

Okay, so hands down the question I get asked the most often is about mixing and matching pillow patterns. And, in light of full discretion, it’s the one thing I see done incorrectly by designers, as well as interior design enthusiasts, alike time and time again. Now, I know that we’re not sending anyone to the moon over here (by any stretch of the imagination) and this really is a completely subjective topic. But I believe that picking the right combo is as much of an art as it is science. While there are many different ways in which to begin mixing and matching pillow patterns correctly, this one secret has never failed. Are you ready? Here we go:

Stick to a single colour palette, and then play with scale. You want to make sure you have a large scale pattern, and a small scale pattern. Next, grab a textured pillow, ideally in a solid hue, to anchor it all. Here are a few examples so you can see just what I mean, and start mixing and matching pillow patternslike a pro:
