Baby Edwards’ Nursery

Nursery: ikea hack

When my friend Sarah announced she was pregnant just after Christmas, it was all I could do to not fly across the country to squeeze her in person. You see, I’m a bit of a baby fanatic these days, and like any normal human, I immediately began daydreaming about how I’d design her nursery. I don’t know if it’s the power of positive thought, a self proclaimed prophecy, or a good ol’ fashioned coincidence, but Sarah and her husband, Andy, hired me to do just that a few days later… While working remotely on a nursery over in BC has had its fair share of challenges, I can’t even begin to describe how much fun we’ve had along the way. With baby Edwards due any day now, and a photo-shoot with Heidi set for early June, we’re mere days away from being complete, but I thought it’d be fun to share where we began…

THE INSPIRATION

Baby Edwards’ sexe is actually a surprise, so the mission was to create a gender neutral nursery to start, and incorporate some more feminine or masculine elements after he or she makes their debut. The existing space is actually quite tiny, but with floor to ceiling windows taking up the entirety of one wall, it’s flooded with natural light and will be the perfect little space for this lucky little person to call home. With a focus on all things soft and pretty, here are a few inspiration photos that acted as the design’s jumping off point.

THE DESIGN

and this is what we’re doing to make it all come together:

Nice and elegant, totally timeless, soft and simple, with a flamingo wallpaper accent wall that wows (and looks unreal installed). Stay tuned in the coming weeks for the grand reveal!
