Wanderings: The Amalfi Coast
In exactly one weeks time Justin and I will be hopping on a plane to the Amalfi Coast! Excited doesn’t even BEGIN to cover it. We found a crazy, insane, wicked good deal (obsessively checking travel sites sometimes pays off) and jumped at the opportunity. We’ll be staying in the small town of Maiori, just 10 minutes east of Amalfi. From what I understand, there isn’t a ton happening on in Maiori but it will act as a jumping off point for day trips (Capri, Positano, Sorrento, Pompeii…) Everything happened relatively quickly and we’ve yet to do any legitimate research, so I’m here to ask for advice! One of my biggest pet peeves is spending money on sub-par food so restaurant recommendations are especially in order. Please do send anything and everything this way!

Apart from an (amazing) industry party on Friday night (which ended in bowls of mimosas at 2 am), I had virtually no concrete plans the past two days and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. We meandered the city at will, mani-pedis were had, take-out Thai was thoroughly enjoyed, and Sunday afternoon was spent on the beach, ice cream in hand. It was exactly what the doctor ordered and I am now fully equipped to tackle the week ahead. Monday? Bring it!

April on Instagram

I think it’s safe to say that April was a good month. Not only did I wrap up a fab mini family vacation in Florida, I also finished writing that dang NCIDQ exam (one of these days I’ll refrain from bringing it up in a sentence), a dear friend of mine has returned from a whirlwind 9 month long stint in South America, and the weather is finally behaving. This newfound freedom has me all sorts of excited and I can’t wait to see what May brings along with it!
Ps – If you care to follow along on further Instagram adventures, my username is: larkandlinen.
Happy weekend my dears. XO

It’s been a while since we’ve had a weekend with virtually no concrete plans. I don’t know about you, but I find that summer comes and goes so fast and it seems as if everyone wants to capitalize on it one way or another. There always seems to be some sort of event to attend, somewhere to be, something to do. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining one bit as we’ve had a ton of fun, but I must admit that it was nice to wake up when our bodies told us we were rested and carry on through the rest of the day with the slow leisurely pace that summer is supposed to bring.
We realized that with all of the going-ons lately, we have not had a moment to ourselves to go out alone and just be. So Saturday morning we packed up the car and headed north. Destination: a “secret”* beach outside of the city. We brought the necessities: a bottle of prosecco, a red and white blanket, some cous cous salad and Stella. The day was spent in and out of the water in attempts to cool off, taking mini naps on the lawn and teaching each other new card games (something I learned: I am terrible at explaining the rules of a game and it often seems as if I’m adding in new rules throughout to benefit myself. I swear I am not! I simply forgot to tell you that part…) As the afternoon lingered into the evening, we packed up our picnic and headed home. But only because we wanted ice cream.
*We did not do a sufficient amount of research and our “secret” beach ended up being loaded down with cottages and the like. As a result we may have set up shop on a small patch of grass next to a deserted road. Minor details. It was still wonderful.
And adding to my wishing well: find a real secret beach in which to spend our plan-free summer days from here on out. I’ll keep you posted with how this pans out. There may be picnic test runs in the near future.

This weekend was filled to the brim with celebrations with friends, barbecued meats, fancy dinners, not-so-fancy wings and beer on a patio, fireworks, backyard gatherings, white wine spritzers, puppies on the beach, s’mores with nutella spread and late night hot tubing.

summer living.
Oh the things I would do to spend my summer here, in this amazing house on the beach in Cape Town, South Africa.
