inspiration: a black & white halloween

Who ever said that Halloween needed to be tacky? Though fake spider webs and caution tape have their respective time and place, a simple black and white approach to the holiday is a surefire way to get it done in style. I’ve never really been a fan of orange anyway.

Happy Halloween you guys!

house envy: the makeunder

source

All too often I stumble upon homes that have been polished and shined until they’re an unrecognizable version of their former selves. When John Derian took possession of this East Village apartment in New York City back in 1994, he made it his mission to “restore” it to its intended charm. A makeunder, if you will. Smoke stained ceilings (the former tenant, a sculptor, was a heavy smoker), chipped paint, original “patina” and all became part of the decor. A truly refreshing space that further solidifies the notion of ”if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.

(ps. I recommend the New York Times article about this particular property. It’s a good read!)

scenes from my weekend

pizza & friends | a Halloween staple (though I find them repulsive)
so much rain | we went for minimal decor this year
decked out for a Halloween party! (my best friend and I were sashimi)

I spent very little time at home this weekend which, as you may have noticed in the past, is quite unlike me. I felt as if my former-university self was out in full force and it was nice to have her back! I bar hopped with friends (stopping for mid-evening pizza at North of Brooklyn – I highly recommend it), attended multiple Halloween parties, and didn’t get home until almost three am on more than one occasion. It was a nice change of pace from my usual routine. Because lets face it, sometimes you just need to leave the dishes in the sink, the laundry piled high and let loose with good friends.
