Shop Tour: Bottega Louie
This shoot combines a handful of my favourite things: beautiful interiors, delicious food, and Leah (how stinking cute is she?!) Though I’ve never been to LA myself, I’ve long heard about this fabulousness that is Bottega Louie. So when I came across the opportunity to have it photographed for Style Me Pretty Living I couldn’t have been more excited. And when I finally laid eyes on the photos myself, it was simply better than I could have even imagined.

retail therapy: Aesop
Aesop has always had a history of coming up with brilliant retail stores and this London location is no exception. The way the product shelving has been designed turns the items into veritable works of art, without making you feel as if they’re untouchable or shoved down your throat. It’s a space I would gladly spend time casually perusing. A job very well done, if you ask me.

sweet alchemy
When I imagine a bakery of any kind, the first thing that comes to mind is a space that’s light, bright, and jovial. I never would have dreamed of marrying pastries with drama – it’s just not an adjective I’d use when deliberating on how to display such delicate treats.
I recently stumbled upon this pastry shop, Sweet Alchemy, whose design aesthetic quickly challenged all of my preconceived notions of what a bakery should be. The play of light and dark in this particular space is incredibly unexpected, which makes it all the more appealing. It’s often the path less travelled that leads to the most interest when it comes to design. And it’s spaces like these that give me the confidence to question my first instincts when working with my own clients.

retail therapy: Joan’s on Third
If I were a shop, this is what I’d (hope to) look like. If there’s anything I appreciate as much as I do design its food – particularly: good food, if I’m being honest. And when the two commingle - well you can probably just imagine the grin on my face. Joan’s on Third, a stunning food boutique located in Los Angeles, has seamlessly joined my two favourites into one cohesive unit. Within its walls you’ll find a cheese shop, a gelato stop and a bakery, not to mention sweet little dining areas encouraging you to sit and stay a while. It’s probably in my best interest that this doesn’t exist in Toronto for I would be hard pressed to ever leave.

retail therapy: Ta-ze
Located just down the street from my office is this delightful olive oil shop, Ta-ze. Having recently acquired a palette for different varieties of olive oils (this officially means I’m an adult), I can’t wait to visit the place in the flesh. Designed by the popular Toronto firm, Burdifilek, the store is quirky and creative, allowing the olive oil to take centre stage, all the while remaining innovative and thoroughly thought out.
