Twelve Months with Ivy

12 MONTH SHOP THE POST:

I have to admit, I’ve been putting off writing this post for weeks now because I’m still coming to terms with the fact that this will be my last monthly update. Our sweet baby girl is quickly transforming into a tiny, busy, toddler with oodles of personality and she surprises and delights us with new things each and every day.

I never in my life could have anticipated the roller coaster of emotions that would bubble to the surface once we reached her first birthday. I can tell because this month my camera roll is filled to the brim, even more so than usual, with videos and photos of our girl in an attempt to capture every last second of her fleeting babyhood. In the same breath, it has been so incredible to watch her turn into her own tiny (yet mighty!) person. My heart feels like it’s been cracked wide open in so many ways, but I’m here for it. Month-0-12

This month our Ivy girl has changed so drastically. It’s been fascinating to watch her world shift and witness her growing awareness of all of her surroundings. She knows where almost all her body parts are, responds to simple requests like “can you get Sage’s ball for her?” and “stomp your feet!”, she also says “uh oh” whenever she drops something (it’s THE CUTEST). She’s been standing for quite some time, but has started taking small yet cautious steps and I feel like one day she’s going to go from standing to running. She continues to be a champion eater, and the amount of joy she gets out of her meals is incredible. Our family meals have quickly become one of my favourite things in the entire world.

This month we’ve also transitioned to one nap and while she still doesn’t love sleeping at night (who’s child is she? I don’t even know), the less frequent daytime sleep has helped immensely overnight. And after a year of her refusing to nap anywhere but in our arms, she’s finally taking to her crib which is giving us a much needed mid-day break. Like everything, this is ripe with all the feels – joy, relief and grief all at once. Motherhood I tell you. It’s a trip.

We celebrated her first birthday with an intimate “Ivy’s Garden” themed party and, surrounded by her closest family members – our incredible village – it was everything I could have imagined and more. Having the honour of being this little souls parent is one that is never lost on me, and I count my blessings every single day that this little human chose us to do life with. As the world slowly gets back to normal, I find myself daydreaming of all of the wonderful things I can’t wait to show her, and while I’m still mourning her babyhood, I know that the future is ripe with opportunity and incredible new things to experience. Here’s one final peek at our last month.

  2. Charisse says:

Happy Birthday little one! Thank you so much for sharing Ivy monthly updates. She is so adorable and it was delightful to see and hear about her progress during a challenging covid year. What stories you will be able to tell her about the year she was born. It always perked me up to see your beautiful photos and to hear the joy and delight you take in being her mother. Many Blessings wished for Ivy and you and hubby.

  3. Kate says:

Congratulations, Jacquelyn, and happy 1st birthday to Ivy! I remember thinking that motherhood made me suddenly understand cliched expressions, like “if I could put time in a bottle.” I just love the birthday kisses photos — and I’m so excited to see that Ivy’s a ginger!!! :)

  4. Peg says:

Happy Birthday to Ivy! She’s a cutie, and so are you!!
