Six Months with Ivy

6 MONTH

I’m fairly confident it won’t be the last time I utter these words, but six months so far has been my very favourite age. Our sweet girl’s personality continues to unfold in massive ways and it is so much fun to experience every last ounce of it. She’s so much more interactive these days, and we are truly relishing every bit.IVY - Month-06

In addition to “mama”, our girl now says “dada”, “nana”, and has the most adorable and hilarious fake cough when she’s trying to get our attention. It’s probably not the best trick to encourage during the pandemic, but we simply can’t help ourselves. She also has two tiny teeth and I never thought I’d love two tiny teeth so fiercely. They’re the cutest little chiclets, though they’re razor sharp and slightly dangerous at times, ha.

Right now I feel like we’re at a point in our parenting journey where we have really found our footing. It sounds strange to say, but I feel like we really know each other now and there are far fewer guessing games as to what she may need. I feel fully in tune with her cues and I’ve really honed in on my intuition and trusting my gut instincts, which have never been stronger.

It’s been a big transitional month for all of us as we’ve made quite a few new adjustments around here. We have left Ivy with her grandparents for an hour or two here and there in the past. But this month Justin and I left her with her nan for the first time for a solid chunk of time so we could sneak away to celebrate the anniversary of when we first started dating (14 years ago!), and catching a glimpse of our old life – not to mention being able to reconnect on a whole different level – was incredible.

In addition, we have finally established a solid bedtime routine and our girl is officially sleeping in her crib for the first stretch of the evening. She’s still waking up quite a few times throughout the night, and typically ends up in our bed once we go to sleep for my own sanity, but if I’ve learned anything by now I know that this is just the season we’re in. It will eventually end and one day I’ll miss these sleepless nights. So for now I’m soaking in the fact that she still needs me so frequently, and I (usually) love our midnight (and 1:00 am, 2:00 am, 3:00 am…) snuggles.

She is so much more interactive these days, and much like the rest of us in this household, has a particular affinity for our dog, Sage. My mom also treated her to the LoveEvery toy subscription box, which admittedly been amazing (the toys are so beautiful in addition to being perfectly designed for her age). But of course the items that have held her attention the longest thus far are a metal coaster, a banana peel, and the tassels on one of our living room pillows.

We are enjoying our darling girl so fiercely, and can’t wait to see what’s next. Here is a little peek at our month, in photos.
