I actually feel like this one has been tackled a lot, so I apologize if this information is redundant, but I’m still seeing curtains hung incorrectly and it’s such an easy fix, so I thought I’d do my part to help spread the word. Essentially, it’s quite simple! You want to hang them as high as possible, and you want your curtain rod to be hung so that it extends 8-12″ outside of your window casing on both sides. This trick will give even the smallest window the illusion of grandeur. Whether the curtain fabric itself puddle at the ground for a more casual look, or they’re perfectly hemmed so they simply graze the floor for a more tailored vibe is entirely up to you.

This may be a silly question but what about garden level windows for garden level city apartments (so much higher windows than normal because they’re above grade when 2/3 of the wall is below)? Do you stick with shades or go to romans?

  3. Fantastic tips! I am definitely gonna use this in one of my project. Thanks for sharing

Do you recommend blinds in rooms where you cannot extend the curtain beyond the window? I have a 100 year old home with lots of windows nestled up to the walls and this seems the logical solution. Also if you use curtains on the big window and blinds on the small, do you prefer them to match exactly?
