house envy: blush & black.

found here

When Justin and I first moved in together, the challenge became trying to decorate our place all the while combining our drastically different aesthetics. While my taste remains primarily girly (and slightly rustic) his definitely tips towards the more “bachelor pad-esque” feel. If it were up to him we would surely have a reclining lazy boy sofa.

It has been a struggle to complement both of our wants and wishes and we have, no question, made compromises along the way. When I found this apartment, I couldn’t help but feel like the owners have done a perfect guangzhou job of blending both the masculine and femine elements seamlessly. The combination of blush and black remains classic in my eyes without screaming “a girl totally lives here”. And if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be over here contemplating whether or not I should paint our bedroom black (think of the glorious sleep that would ensue!)

  1. This is totally the look I love! I just posted last week about my neutral/restful aesthetic preference. Do you have any idea where that painting in the second picture is from? I love it.

When I saw that bedroom I was thinking the same thing, and then I got to your comment of how you are contemplating the idea too… Do tell us how it turns out!

I’m in the process of packing up and heading back to Toronto and I’m totally painting my bedroom black…well, if not the entire thing at least one wall. I just love a black wall.

But first, to find an apartment…let the hunting begin! lol.

  9. gasp! i love this color combo! it makes my heart go pitter patter :) def pinning this :)

Gorgeous. I love this combo. It’s simply refreshing and beautiful.

  11. Totally hear you on combining two very different design aesthetics. Or in my case, a design aesthetic and someone who never gives design a second thought and will happily accept whatever the big box stores tell him is in. I adore the color palette in this home. It’s so fresh!

I feel like Joe and Justin would get along swimmingly. Justin is the same! It almost works out to my benefit because he doesn’t REALLY care what’s going on, so long as it doesn’t scream girl (no doily’s please, he says)

  12. Suzanne says:

Wow, total fail over here. I gave in to the recliner. Congrats on standing your ground ;)

    • Jacquelyn says:

It was a compromise. When we own our own home he can have a secret room filled with all the leather sectionals his heart desires! I will just avoid the room at all costs :)

I would never have thought black walls could looks so relaxing! The matte colour and rustic bedding keep it out of goth territory, nice.

I love this color combo – and totally agree about this home having the perfect mix of masculine and feminine. Tomorrow I’m posting a color study on blush and inky blue.
