bits and pieces of alexandra.

.
For the next little while I’ll be taking some time to showcase bits and pieces of some of my very favourite bloggers. The ones that I visit daily, without question. These girls are talented beyond belief and I love the idea of sharing a bit about them with the rest of you. Without further ado, here it is:

Alex and I have known each other since the third grade when I caught her prancing around the school ground in a purple leotard working on a gymnastics routine. I knew right then and there that I needed her in my life. Our lives took a turn and it wasn’t until four years later that we found ourselves in the same school once again. We quickly became friends and haven’t looked back. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Alex for over three years in our field and I can safely say that she’s one of the most talented girls that I know. And in case you were wondering, she curates a wonderful blog that you don’t want to miss right here.

And here are some bits and pieces of Alex:
A random fact::
I laugh. A whole lot. Because I find things highly amusing, and it also doubles as a great ab workout!

Your go-to recipe::
The orzo and dill recipe you posted here.  I’ve made it countless times since. It’s so delicious, ridiculously easy, and perfect for parties and/or feeding small countries.

You can’t live without::
My hair straightener and blackberry. Ok so two items. Judge all you want.

Currently coveting::
What item am I not coveting? Let’s not lie to ourselves, as designers we always want yet another pretty object. But my pick of the day is definitely the Saarinen womb chair. Not any colour…no no…an aubergine one. Yummy. (No.1)

Your daily reads::
My daily reads are definitely all my fellow bloggers’ sites. I try to keep up, but when I’m in a time crunch, the top runners would have to be Contemporist, Dezeen, Yatzer and POS1T1ON. Lark and Linen goes without saying =)

On your playlist::
This is a tough one seeing as I’m such a music lover. Anything from Theophilus London, to new tracks from Kelly Rowland and City and Colour. But my current favourite song, my theme song if you will, is Lupe Fiasco’s The Show Goes On. So good.

Your favourite quote::
I’m not much of a “favourite quotes” kinda girl, but I heard one from Andy Warhol (one of my favourite artists, just so you know): “I had a lot of dates but I decided to stay home and dye my eyebrows.” That made me laugh. (No.2)

On your night stand::
I’ve got the usual stuff on my night stand, but my favourite piece is this little jar I have made by a friend of mine, Zimra Beiner, a ceramic artist. There’s a matching one of a boy facing the other direction, which I also want. Oh look at that, it’s my birthday month. (No.3)

Your favourite designer::
Designer… funnily enough, I haven’t quite figured it out yet. Architect? Salvatore Calatrava. Fantastic portfolio. And who knew bridges could look so hot?! (No.4)

In your wishing well::
Get to know half the countries in the world really well.

Your dream home::
Clean spaces, grey and whites, and soft textiles paired with raw woods and metals and glass. (No.5)

Your happy place::
Surrounded by good friends, music and food; wherever in the world that may be!
